Racial Harmony Day 2017
Racial Harmony Day is celebrated on July 21 every year. Racial Harmony Day (RHD) serves to remind pupils on the importance of maintaining racial and religious harmony in Singapore. The theme for this year’s Racial Harmony Day is “Our Singapore Way”. The school organised class and school-wide activities for our pupils to have a very meaningful and engaging learning experience to deepen their understanding of racial harmony.
The week-long event kicked-off with an assembly launch where the morning session pupils and staff were treated to a colourful ensemble of performances by our Guzheng, Indian and Malay Dance groups. These performing groups danced their way into the hearts of the audience, each of them presenting unique music and dance steps from the cultures of different races. The pupils were also treated to a visual feast as staff gamely adorned ethnic costumes in all their richness and vibrancy.
Our parent support group members also participated in this event by helping us with the interactive cultural booths and the traditional game stalls. Pupils got to participate in hands-on activities such as Paper-cutting, Henna, Rangoli design and making of Bunga Manggar, the Malay’s traditional colourful palm blossoms used for weddings and festivals. Through the various hand-on activities at the cultural booths and playing of traditional games, pupils learnt to appreciate the culture and traditions of the different races.
