  • Math Alive!

MOE’s initiative, ‘Teach Less Learn More’ calls for a teaching and learning approach that engages pupils in active and reflective learning. In line with this initiative, the school has implemented programmes and activities with an aim to focus less on rote learning and more on engaging the minds of our pupils. For instance, we immerse pupils in innovative learning environments which emphasise the use of artefacts and simulations of real life experiences where mathematical thinking is useful in their everyday lives. These allow them to make meaningful connections between problem solving and realistic contexts.
Furthermore, pupils work towards being reflective learners because they reason, question and challenge themselves and their peers during class discussions. With these programmes in place for vibrant interactions and learning, Math does indeed come alive in the classrooms.

  • Math and Science Week

Math Week made a comeback in 2016 after a long hiatus! It was carried out from 29 August to 31 August. In line with our signature programme, Maths Alive!, Math Week aims to be an engaging platform for pupils to develop the joy of learning Mathematics and also, to see the relevance of Mathematics in their daily lives. There were exciting competitions such as Poster Design and Game Design. Pupils have to apply what they have learnt in class to design the posters and games. Station games involving volume, mass, time and spatial visualisation were carried out during recess. Pupils had lots of fun using their estimation and computational skills to complete the tasks in order to exchange for attractive prizes.

  • This year, 2017, the department is collaborating with the Science department to launch Math and Science Week. Let’s look forward to an exciting time in Term 2 Week 10!
    • Problem Solving Activities – A conceptual approach

    Equipping pupils with the skills and heuristics for mathematical problem-solving is fundamental to the learning of Mathematics. The Mathematics Department has designed a series of problem solving activities and heuristic worksheets (P1 – P6) that will systematically enable the pupils to be equipped with the different Mathematics heuristics and model drawing for problem-solving.
