Tribute to the late Mr Foo Soo Luang
Tribute to Our Late Former Principal Mr Foo Soo Luang
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Foo Soo Luang, the former Principal of Maha Bodhi School on 26 December 2024.
Mr Foo Soo Luang assumed leadership as Principal in 1971 and served with dedication and professionalism for 25 years until his retirement in 1996. His visionary leadership and commitment to education transformed Maha Bodhi School into a beacon of excellence.
Under his guidance, the school achieved remarkable milestones. In 1973, he encouraged the first batch of 50 Primary 6 Chinese-medium pupils to take the PSLE in the English-medium, all of whom passed with excellent grades. This significant achievement led to a commendation from the Ministry of Education in 1974, with Maha Bodhi School being named one of the top ten schools with the highest marks in the English Language. It was a testament to Mr Foo’s emphasis on bilingualism and his belief in the students' ability to excel in both Chinese and English languages.
Beyond academic achievements, Mr Foo also championed holistic development by introducing various extracurricular activities, such as the brass band, lion dance, choir, and art classes, enriching the students’ physical and artistic growth. His enduring commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals laid a strong foundation for the school’s future success.
In 1985, Maha Bodhi School transitioned into a full English-medium school under Mr Foo’s stewardship, and in 1990, it became a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school, continuing its emphasis on bilingualism and Asian moral values. His leadership also saw the school move into a modern, well-equipped new building in 1995, providing students and staff with state-of-the-art facilities.
Mr Foo retired in October 1996, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, compassion, and unwavering dedication. His contributions to Maha Bodhi School and the broader education landscape will always be cherished and remembered.
Our deepest condolences go out to Mr Foo’s family and loved ones during this time of loss. May you find comfort in the profound impact he made and the lives he touched. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
